Besides the win last Sunday, the rest of the week has been a shit show as the flu is currently sweeping our house. It started with Emma on Wednesday -- cough, fever, basically wiped out. As you can imagine, by Saturday cabin fever had fully taken over. But just as she began begging for us to lift the quarantine, she gained a cell mate -- a.k.a. Marissa. Now it's two sickies, plus Anthony who is dealing with a bad cough himself (thankfully his is not the flu). Even still, we've got three kids on Tamiflu, two on Delsym and Ibuprofen, have humidifiers running around the clock and all five of us are wearing medical masks as we Lysol, Clorox wipe and attempt to vacuum up every last germ.
So how are we surviving this you may ask? To put it simply.... NETFLIX.
So far the girls have watched The Goofy Movie, Willy Wonka and the Chococlate Factory, Cars 3, Kung Fu Panda, Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, Trolls, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Little Rascals (honestly I've lost count). But don't worry - there have been plenty of Junie B. Jones' books, two dozen or so games of UNO and a 300+ Moana Lego set mixed in there as well.
I'm similarly surviving Flumageddon 2018 with the help of the new Netflix series, GLOW, starring Alison Brie and a bunch of other equally talented people I've never heard of before. The show is based on Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling from the 80s and each girl takes on a new persona to deliver a beatdown from Brainiac to Olympic Medalist to "Welfare Queen."
The comic relief is exactly what I need to keep me sane in between cleaning, disinfecting and folding the never-ending pile of laundry. And with all the time on my hands I've come up with what my GLOW persona would be -- I'm thinking a Miss Hannigan type -- she's been through the flood and the flu and she's ready to step on freckles and straighten the curls of her opponent! I can just hear the crowd now.... WE LOVE YOU MISS HANNIGAN!!!!!!!!
Slowly but surely, the girls have been feeling better... and it's good timing because I'm on episode 9 of 10 on GLOW. Really hoping today's notch is the last tally we'll have to make on the chalkboard.
Welp, gotta run. The girls are beckoning me to help them pick something to watch on... yes, you guessed it -- Netflix.
